I have updated the info on my web site regarding construction and characterization of calibration standards. There are several documents, with some overlap, combined in a zip file:

Version 116 of the software contains a new method for describing cal standards, which is a little more flexible. Generally, though, I have gotten good results treating the calibration standards as being ideal.

Some time ago, we tested some standards made from Amphenol RFX connectors, and others made from certain Molex connectors. The characteristics of the Open and Short determined in those tests could be used by others using the same connectors. The characterisics of the Loads probably vary enough from build to build that a standard description is not suitable, but if you have a way to measure your Load on a commercial VNA these documents will help convert that data into a suitable description.
