SAW Amp

Post by Sam » Sat Dec 17, 2011 8:35 pm

I checked the output of my diplexer to see what the max power level would be. I got -11 dBm with the MSA input power to the point where another 1 dB of input increased the diplexer output by only 0.1 dB. This took something like 10 dBm at the MSA input. So I would conclude the most it would ever be is -10 dBm. I think my Mixer 1 has relatively high loss (maybe 8 dBm) and maybe the diplexer adds a dB of loss, so maybe others could get a bit more power, such as -7 dBm.

If you fed this -7 dBm to the SAW module, there would be another 6 dB loss before the amp, yielding -13 dBm at the amp, so even with 21 dB gain in the amp the power to the subsequent SAW would only be +8 dBm. It therefore appears to me that Mixer 1 provides the needed limiting to protect the SAW from excessive power whether you use the ERA or the LEE amp. If you already have the ERA-33sm it would reasonable to use it. Otherwise the LEE-39 is still slightly better.
